YAP is about digital photography on the Linux platform and highlights five powerful open source applications. These programs cover the whole photographic workflow, from organizing via raw conversion to the finishing touch. Together, they form a very capable toolbox that can yield results that equal or even surpass their commercial counterparts. So use them!
The programs discussed here are gThumb
to browse and organize your photos, Gimp
and G'mic
for retouche and further processing, andDarktable
and RawTherapee
for the raw conversion.
All these programs are open source and can be installed via your Software Manager. With articles for beginners and more advanced users, YAP hopes to make these powerful applications more accessible.
The name YAP stands for Yet Another Photopalace. This is a wink to an earlier Wordpress blog that I made, namely paulsphotopalace. I also kept a Dutch blog about Gimp for a while: Alles Gimp of bijna.
YAP uses some parts of those older blogs and adds new stories as well, starting with gThumb.
Note: this site is still under heavy construction!
At the time of writing - spring 2019 - only the part about gThumb is finished. The rest will follow soon. Or not that soon. Time will tell!
